Deceptive picture
Picture includes launch pad. Price is indicative of a full kit. What you receive is a poorly packaged $9 rocket with bent fins and no pad.Amazon policy requires sellers picture what is actually for sale. Estes is in violation of that policy. It's going back.

Are you wondering if this product is worth it?
This is such a great affordable rocket for your first time. As a begginer I found the assembly not only easy but really inspiring and motivating because your learning about the design and engineering behind it. And it is such a great feeling when you actually make it with your hands, and you relize that you can actually accomplish its construction as a young adolescent. It definitly would be my top recommendation for a first time rocket.

Easy To Assemble, Hard to Break
I love this series of rockets. If you’re more into flying rockets than building & repairing them, this is perfect. The tail fin assembly is all one molded piece of sturdy plastic, so it goes on effortlessly without sanding, measuring, glue, and paint. And when the rocket lands, they’re resilient so don’t break off the way wood fins do. Kids love these, and it’s a fun afternoon for everybody.

Estes are the best affordable model rockets available
I used to do rocketry with my kids when they were little. Now doing it with the grandkids. We painted and assembled the rockets on Saturday, did the recovery chutes and final assembly on Sunday morning and launched them at the park on Sunday afternoon. We had a great time all weekend!I still have a few of the old (early 90s) Estes rockets and accessories. There is a noticeable cheapening of the materials and the manufacturing isn't as precise, so some careful adjusting is required during assembly for the rockets to fly true. But not that big a deal, and I didn't have any missing or wrong parts as some reviewers have experienced. The launch control device is wonky, but I was able to fix it with some pliers and a tiny screwdriver. If you launch at a park you may draw a crowd. That’s part of the fun! Just keep them back as you launch to remain safe. The kids in the crowd will volunteer to retrieve the rocket-that’s a plus!!

Perfect!
Sweet little rocket. not much to it. But with the plastic fins, it's a survivor! Over 10 launches so far. I even cut the hole in the 'chute so it falls faster. (last one sailed into the woods). I highly recommend this rocket. I like A engines for the first launch, B and C sizes for altitude after that. Little thing moves! I'll update total number of launches as soon as it fails. I've never gotten so much out of a rocket.

No launch pad and missing pieces!
Does not come with launch pad and also I was missing the nose cone. I was not impressed as it is alot smaller than what it looks like in the pictures.

The Alpha III flies on a single engine and the engine must replaced with each flight.\n\nFor small flying fields around 200 feet on the smallest side, a 1/2A6-2 or A8-3 would be the best choice. For flying fields with a few hundred feet on the smallest side, a B6-4 is the most common choice although a B4-4 will work well in this rocket. For large flying fields, a C6-5 or C6-7 will take it to its maximum altitude and very nearly out of sight.\n\nBy law, model rocket engines MUST be shipped by ground so shipping these by USPS Priority Mail or any other service that uses aircraft is against the law and would expose the vendor to hefty fines. For this reason, even launch sets no longer include engines since including them would prevent shipping launch sets by faster means. No kits include engines for the same reason."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Does this rocket require separate purchase of a launch controller?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"YES. The Alpha III is an easy to assemble (E2X) kit that includes a molded nose cone and fin assembly, paper motor tube, green centering rings and a metal engine retainer hook. All of these parts are glued together to create the flying model rocket. We recommend Testors PN 3501 Plastic Cement (red tube) and a small bottle of Titebond II wood glue for assembly. No sanding or painting is required for the Alpha III rocket kit. \nThen for launching, we recommend you purchase PN 2222 Estes Launch System which contains the Estes Porta Pad II Launch Pad, Electron Beam Launch Control, launch rod, blast plate and stand off stem. You will need to purchase four, 1.5V Alkaline batteries for the launch controller (Energizer Max work very well for this application) as well as at least 1 pack of Estes 1598 A8-3 Model Rocket Engines (recommended first for the first launch) and PN 2274 Recovery Wadding. You might also consider purchasing one pack of Estes 2302 Starters just in case you need an extra or two. \nYou could get also get the Alpha III rocket and a complete Estes launch system in one package by ordering PN 1427, the Estes Alpha III Launch Set, but you will still be required to purchase the glue, engines, recovering wadding, extra starters and batteries to assemble and launch the rocket.\n\nThe Estes Team."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"I am looking for a rocket my kids can paint themselves ...any suggestions ?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"The sister rocket to the Alpha III is the Estes 1225 Alpha.
