SFM33332 Hermit Crab Shell, Medium, 3-Piece per Pack

These shells look really nice, are varied in color/shapes (but they're all natural - no paint!), and the openings are the correct shapes for the crabs (unlike the ones they tried to con me into buying at Petco).The size descriptions were really vague, so I bought four packages, two each of two different sizes. The packages have a sticker put on them saying the specific size range of the shells inside. But not all the packages are the same!For one package of the large shells ( Shells for Hermit Crabs - Large - 2 pk ), the size was from 1" to 1 1/4". On the other, it was from 1" to 1 1/2". It turns out the large size are HUGE! Way too big for my crabs!For the mediums(the size this review is for), the sizes were 3/4" to 1" and 1/2" to 3/4" (which gave me a very good range of sizes for my crabs to choose from!) It turns out that these were the size I needed.I would certainly recommend these shells! The mediums were the perfect size for my hermit crabs, which are pretty average size. They've already tried out a couple of them on for size, and they've only been in there a few hours!

Within 24 hours one of our crabs had moved into one of these new shells! We had other shells in his pen, but although he seemed like he needed a new shell he had never been interested until we got these! Beautiful to look at too.

Items were much smaller than expected. I would say all the shells are small. My son has two hermit crabs and the shells all are too small. One of them may work for our smallest crab and that is cutting it close. Shells arrived in great shape. Were not cracked. Not a mix of sizes. Disappointed in sizing, not quality. Arrived as pictured. May order again in future, but definitely would watch sizing on the shells. Did not notice smell or residue. Am curious about over all shininess of shells since it is suggested to use more natural shells and avoid painted shells (unsure over all, bought crabs with painted shells and appear healthy). If aiming for the medium size shells order bigger shells, because you will be unhappy with the size of them, like I was.

One shell is unsuitable for her it crabs. Bag says small/medium, but one shell has a hole way too large. Once the crab would be big enough for that hole, the shell itself would be too small for the body of the crab. Disappointing quality control with only 4 shells total in the bag.

Wish there was an easier way to tell what size needed.

They are the perfect size for my new hermit crab. I cane back from an overnight trip to find my crab had molted into one of the shells while I was away. I was told when I got him that it would be a bit before he changed shells, but it only took him a week.

Ordered them looking for a bigger shell. Hermit crab looking to move and tried lol of them and not able to get around the habitat. Shells point out and are not the rounded style he is in. Having a hard time finding one big enough.

It's not really about what I like. It's about what my Hermit Crab likes. It took him long enough to discover the new shells and he already switched and he even seemed to be more active during the day. So yes, Lorenz is happy with his new mobile home.
