Excellent Tool for Checking Paint and Lacquer Thickness!
Excellent tool for finding any repaints on steel body vehicles. I like that it doesn't take batteries. If I need a precise tool, I reach for my digital paint gauge. It is accurate though when used carefully... you just need to take your time when you pull it back, go too fast and you risk not getting the right thickness result. However, for quick checks, especially bondo work, this tool doesn't lie. Great for those that do used vehicle shopping or testing panels after a body shop does work to see how much bondo clay they used to fix panels. I'll note again, it is NOT for plastic or aluminum panels, has to be a ferrous material.

A must before every vehicle purchase
An absolute must if you’re looking to buy any vehicle.

Works great.
Works great, only complaint is they put a sticker/label right over the information that is crucial to its use. Also just remember most vehicles these days aren’t metal so won’t work on plastic or carbon fiber panels

Works good
Works good, but keep in mind many panels are plastic or aluminum.

Surprisingly effective/accurate!
As soon as I received this, I immediately tested it on auto body panels of known status. On the one with missing clearcoat, the tool indicated "thin paint". On another with good OE paint, the reading was once again correct. Then I checked a panel that I knew had been repainted. Once again, the tool was right on the money. I have a decent eye for paint, but this tool will be super valuable to confirm what I think I'm seeing.

Awesome little tool
I’m a technician at a car dealership and it’s nice to have something easy to use, small and not to expensive to just give you a little reassurance.
